Vengeance is Sacred by Peter Healy is a well written historical fiction filled with murder, mystery, and romance. The story centers on Paolo, a young Italian man who has psychic abilities. Paolo is forced to flee to America in order to escape the retribution of the Camorra Crime Syndicate. The story follows his struggles as he tries to make a new life for himself. He meets many interesting characters along the way and finds true love when he meets Maria. Will Paolo finally have the "happily ever after" life he sees in his premonitions? The book had me rooting for Paolo and hoping that he gets the life that he deserves. This book was very easy to read and I couldn't put it down!
A spectacular, exciting story that will have you rooting for Paolo, the main character, in no time. I loved all of the suspense that kept me reading even when I knew I had other things to do- the fire at the Triangle is one of the best parts of the book! A murder/mystery/romance/thriller all wrapped up in one easy to read book. Can't wait to read more from this author.
This is a thrilling adventure of a lifetime for one man who faces intrigue, family secrets, hope, and love.
The story was very well written and full of such emotion that I was instantly immersed in this magnificent tale from the first page. I loved Paolo's character he was interesting and I couldn't help, but want to know more about his character and hoping he was able to get his happily ever after throughout the course of the story.
The relationship between him and Maria was very sweet and I loved both of them. Maria was a perfect match for Paolo.

Vengeance is Sacred by Peter Healy is one of those books that could fall into a few different genres because of how differently people see stories such as this one. This was historical fiction, thriller and romance all combined into one extremely cohesive story. The book was action packed and kept me reading even when I had things that needed to be done. I'm not normally big on historical fiction, mostly because there are so many historical fiction books that are just hard to get into the story but Vengeance is Sacred grabbed me from the beginning and it was hard to put down. I loved Paolo's character and found myself constantly wanting to know more and more about him! As far as I could tell, the book was historically accurate (although, I'm not a history buff by any means). I thought Healy's writing style was easy to read for the most part and I would definitely read more from him!
a wondeful love story filled with action, suspense, and history! author peter healy shines with this first novel, and i am definitely a fan!
I am usually more of a Sci-Fi guy but I have been known to enjoy a good thriller on occasion! Vengeance is Sacred did not disappoint, although it is a historical novel I found myself getting engrossed in the story of Paolo and his "special" abilities. He is a young man living in Italy helping out his family with their business when he gets caught up with the local mafia. Paolo is forced to leave his homeland and his family in order to save them from the Camorra Crime family. Paolo makes it to New York and begins a fresh new life but will his special abilities bring him trouble in New York also? Will he find happiness in his new homeland? It was a great novel and I really enjoyed reading it.
This book is set in the early 1900's, and is the story of Paolo, a young man who has some special psychic powers inherited from his grandfather. His powers are supposed to be used to help his family, in Italy, but a brush with a very prestigious family that wants to extract revenge on him causes Paolo to flee to America to save himself and his family. Once in America he struggles with how and when to use his power - and if the girl he loves will still accept him if she knows of his power and his past.
I thought this story was really interesting, although it read a little slow in the beginning when you are trying to get all the background knowledge on Paolo and his abilities (I find this true in a lot of fantasy novels, though). Once I got into the story though, it had me hooked - I couldn't stop reading, because I wanted to know how things turned out for Paolo! Overall, a great book.
A wonderfully told story of love and redemption! This novel contains interesting and intriguing characters, a flowing and cohesive plot, lyrical language, and a real sense of history told through the eyes of an Italian immigrant. The events revolving around the Triangle Fire -- an important historical event that I had no knowledge of prior to reading this novel -- were so exciting I couldn't put it down. Peter Healy's originality shines with his spectacular first novel! I'm already looking for a sequel!
I enjoyed reading Vengeance is Sacred it is a very well written book with characters that are appealing in such a way that I felt connected to them especially the main character Paolo, and his struggles with his special powers and his decision to move so far away from his family. The author did a great job telling Paolo's story and as he went through a range of emotions I could almost feel what he must have been going through especially his decision to move from Italy to New York, leaving behind everything that is familiar to him and all of his family behind. I also really appreciated the love that blossomed between Paola and Maria.
Vengeance is Sacred is a wonderful story that is filled with adventure. Paolo has inherited his grandfather's psychic abilities. The story starts out in Italy where Paolo helps his family out with their business (mushroom farming). But when the local crime family sets their sights on Paolo and his family, Paolo feels that the only way to save himself and his loved ones is to flee to America. He finds himself in New York where he must start a new life. I truly enjoyed reading about Paolo's story and his struggles once he came to New York, probably because it gave me some perspective into my parents life & struggles when they moved to the US over thirty years ago.
I have always been attracted to stories of people with psychic abilities whether they are books, movies or shows mostly because I believe that there are real people in this world that do posses such abilities.
So when I came across this book, Vengeance is Sacred, I was intrigued enough to read it. The story is a bit unusual because the person with the psychic abilities is a male (usually a female is portrayed with these abilities for some reason) and his name is Paolo. Also the era in which this novel was set was intriguing: 1909. That certainly could not have been a time when people gave much credence to psychic ability!
Paolo has inherited his abilities from his grandfather and inadvertently he crosses paths with the local crime family in his Italian home town (a bit cliché I know). The only way to escape retribution from them is to flee Italy. Paolo finds himself in New York where he must create a new life for himself. It was interesting to follow Paolo on his journey, to "watch him" fall in love, and to see him struggle with his gift (whether to use it and expose himself or not).
An enjoyable read to be sure.
Peter Healy's Vengeance is Sacred is a great story of magic, family, love, and adventure. Paolo inherits special abilities from his grandfather, and pledges to help his family in their family business of mushroom farming - but when a crime family comes after him and threatens his family, his only choice is to run to America and look for a new life there. Paolo falls in love with a girls who knows nothing of his abilities, and must decide if he wants to tell her - and when and how. He also struggles with having left his family so far away.
I thought the story was good, and the historical setting (Ellis Island, labor riots, etc) made the book more interesting.
Vengeance is Sacred is the story of Paolo, a young man with special powers that he inherited from his grandfather. He crosses an infamous crime family in his hometown in Italy, and is forced to flee to America in 1909. The book follows Paolo as he makes a new life, falls in love with a girl named Maria, and encounters various action-packed situations where he must determine whether to use his powers or continue to shelter them.
The story is pretty exciting, and I liked the emphasis on family and love - the historical aspect of it was kind of interesting, as well. The beginning of the book is a little slow, but the story soon picks up - and will keep you turning pages, just to see what happens.
